WUNDERLAND SERIE 2009

In a trans-national, spatial montage, Möglichkeitsraum I plants unpublished photographs from the UN-Archives in Cyprus onto the derelict space of Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum. Nine newly installed billboards display photos from the military-controlled ghost city, Varosha in Cyprus, interiors of its abandoned houses, and images taken of the UN-Guarded Green Line in Nicosia.
Möglichkeitsraum I is a project about the segmentation of collective memory in urban spaces and archives, such as in Nicosia and Berlin. It also topicalizes the role that migration plays in zones of territorial conflicts. Near the billboards, telephone numbers are scratched into the ground and invite visitors to call up and listen to audio pieces. The project also entails a seminar with outdoor film screenings and a roundtable discussion with participants from around the world.
